Honda is recalling certain model year 2018 and 2019 Honda Odyssey vehicles. The latch assemblies for the power sliding doors may stick and not properly latch to the door strikers. If this were to occur, the sliding door may open while the vehicle is in motion.

What's the problem?

More than 107,000 vehicles built from the start of production through April 16, 2018 are affected by this recall, which stems from complaints of doors not latching or opening while underway. Nearly 4,000 warranty claims have been made to Honda related to this issue.

Honda and the part supplier were able to confirm the problem was due to gears and levers inside the latch assembly that could become stuck. After attempting to correct the problem with improved grease application during assembly, Honda decided to make further component improvements and to conduct a safety recall.

What happens next?

Honda will notify owners and dealers will replace the left and right power sliding door rear latch assemblies, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin December 20, 2018.

Owners may contact Honda customer service at (888) 234-2138. Honda's numbers for this recall are Z33 and O36.
