Product Label Omission Forces Recall of La Mexicana Spinach Dip

Product Label Omission Forces Recall of La Mexicana Spinach Dip
July 7, 2015

A product label error is forcing a California-based company to recall a popular product.

La Mexicana Food Products of Vernon, CA is removing its spinach dip from shelves due to their failure to disclose that milk is a sub-ingredient of a listed ingredient, sour cream.

Those with a severe sensitivity to milk are in danger of anaphylaxis, a severe allergic reaction. The reaction is fast-acting and can be fatal. All affected should seek medical attention immediately.

Upon discovery of the error, La Mexicana segregated its inventory immediately and voluntarily issued a recall of all affected products. The company is cooperating fully with the California Department of Public Health.

Customers in possession of the product are urged to return the product to the place of purchase.

2015 has not been a banner year for spinach products. The La Mexicana recall comes on the heels of similar measures taken by organic food companies Amy's Kitchen, Wegmans Food Markets, Coastal Green Vegetable Company, and Carmel Food Group earlier this year.
