Nissan North America has announced a recall for an SUV with a faulty trunk.

The automaker is recalling certain model year 2014-2016 Nissan Rogue vehicles. In the affected vehicles, the rear lift gate support stays may corrode due to insufficient anti-corrosion treatment.

Corrosion of one or both of the rear lift gate support stays could cause a sudden release of pressure. If this occurs, the support stays may break off, increasing the risk of injury.

The manufacturer believes that about 109,000 vehicles are potentially impacted.

Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will replace the rear tailgate stays, free of charge. Parts, however, are not currently available. Owners will be sent interim notifications by mid-June 2016. A second notice will be sent when remedy parts become available.

Owners with questions about this recall can contact Nissan customer service at (800) 647-7261.
