Seatbelt Glitch Instigates Recall for 2016 Kia Sorento
In a week where a domestic automaker is dominating the recall headlines, a South Korean company is getting in on the action.
Kia Motors America is recalling certain model year 2016 Kia Sorento vehicles due to a seatbelt defect. Affected vehicles have a front passenger seatbelt whose buckle latch assembly may prevent the passenger from safely buckling in.
If the front passenger seatbelt cannot be latched, the occupant has an increased risk of injury in the event of a crash. Kia received three warranty claims relating to the replacement of this part, initiating the July 7, 2015 decision to conduct a voluntary safety recall.
Kia is expected to begin contacting owners of affected vehicles on August 18, 2015. Dealers will replace the front passenger seat buckle cover, free of charge. Consumers with questions should contact (800) 333-4542.
