Some BMW X3 Vehicles Built with a Spoiler That Could Detach While in Motion

If the spoiler detaches, it can become a road hazard

March 21, 2018

BMW of North America has announced the recall of 17,000 model year 2018 BMW X3 xDrive30i and X3 M40i vehicles.

What's the problem?

The rear spoiler on these vehicles may not have been properly attached during assembly, or may be missing screws, possibly causing the spoiler to detach while the vehicle is in motion.

If the spoiler detaches, it can become a road hazard, increasing the risk of a crash.

What happens next?

Owners of the recalled X3 xDrive30i and X3 M40i vehicles will be notified by BMW in early May 2018. BMW dealers will inspect the spoiler, correcting its attachment as necessary, free of charge.

Owners with questions about this recall can contact BMW customer service at (800) 525-7417.
