A potential loss of steering capability has prompted a recall from one recreational vehicle manufacturer.

Spartan Motors USA announced this week that it would be recalling certain model year 2003-2005 MM and K2 motorhome chassis. The affected vehicles have a steering gear mounting bracket that may crack, causing a loss of steering ability and increasing the risk of a crash.

The company is recalling about 1,350 units in relation to this defect.

Spartan Motors was informed of the potential faulty equipment and conducted testing on September 21, 2015. On September 29, 2015, the issue was presented to the Campaign Approval Board and the company determined that a safety defect existed.

Spartan will notify owners, and dealers will replace the steering gear mounting brackets, free of charge. The company notified dealers of the repair program on October 16, 2015 and plan to notify all owners directly on November 13, 2015.

Owners with questions about the recall can contact Spartan customer service at (800) 543-4277.
