Subaru of America is conducting a recall affecting approximately 8,557 model year 2003-2004 Legacy, Outback, and Baja vehicles, as well as certain 2004 Impreza vehicles, equipped with Takata-brand front passenger airbag inflators.

Upon deployment of the passenger side frontal airbag in a crash, excessive internal pressure may cause the inflator to rupture.

In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the passenger side frontal airbag, the inflator could rupture with metal fragments striking and potentially seriously injuring the vehicle occupants.

Subaru will notify owners of the recalled vehicles, and Subaru dealers will replace the defective airbag inflators in all affected vehicles free of charge.
