Sudden Loss of Braking Assist Could Occur in Recalled Toyota and Lexus Vehicles

The oil galley for the brake booster vacuum pump assembly may have been improperly machined during manufacturing

April 11, 2018

What's the problem?

Toyota says that during the manufacturing of more than 6,000 model year 2018 Toyota Camry and Highlander vehicles, 2017 Toyota Sienna and Tacoma vehicles, and 2017 Lexus RX350 vehicles, the oil galley in the rotor for the brake booster vacuum pump assembly may have been improperly machined.

As a result, all of these vehicles have been recalled by the manufacturer.

What's the risk?

If the oil galley was improperly machined, it could lead to a sudden loss of braking assist, which increases the risk of a crash.

What happens next?

Owners of the recalled Camry, Highlander, Sienna, Tacoma, and Lexus RX350 vehicles will be notified by Toyota beginning in late May 2018. Local Toyota and Lexus dealers will then replace the brake booster vacuum pump, free of charge.

Vehicle owners with any questions or concerns about this recall should contact Toyota customer service at (888) 270-9371 or Lexus customer service at (800) 255-3987. Provide recall reference numbers J0K and JLD.
