Temani Wicker Furniture Recalled by Pier 1 Imports Due to Violation of Federal Standard
The paint used on the furniture may contain too much lead
Pier 1 Imports has recalled 2,500 pieces of wicker furniture, in addition to 75 sold in Canada, because they violate the federal lead paint standard.

The affected products are part of the Pier 1 Imports Temani wicker furniture collection, including a chair, settee, and ottoman. The pieces are ivory colored, made out of rattan wicker, and were sold without a cushion. The chair is 29 inches wide, 29.5 inches deep, and 35.5 inches high; the settee is 51.5 inches wide, 29.5 inches deep, and 35.5 inches high; and the ottoman is 27 inches wide, 18 inches deep, and 16 inches high.
Each piece includes a company logo on its underside. Only those pieces in the ivory-colored Temani collection are affected by this recall. The items were sold at Pier 1 Imports stores across the country and online at Pier1.com from March 2014 until April 2017 for between $140 and $560.
The affected pieces include:
- The chair with SKU number 2769765
- The settee with SKU number 2860548
- The ottoman with SKU number 2769778
No injuries or incidents connected with this recall have been reported. Nevertheless, consumers are urged to stop using the affected pieces right away and to take them back to any Pier 1 Imports location for either a full refund or a merchandise credit.
Excessive levels of lead can lead to lead poisoning. It is particularly dangerous for pregnant women and children younger than six.
