A software error in certain Toyota Rav4 SUVs could prevent trailer lights from working.

Toyota is recalling about 1,140 model year 2013 - 2015 Rav4 SUVs that are equipped with an accessory trailer light module. The software may incorrectly detect an electrical short and preventively turn off the electrical current and trailer lights.

If the lights do not work while the trailer is towed at night, it could make the trailer more difficult for other drivers to see, increasing the risk of a crash.

Toyota will notify owners affected by the recall and dealers will replace the module with a new unit, free of charge.
