About 46,800 bicycle helmets are being recalled by UVEX Sports.

The anchor for the helmet's chinstrap can fail, causing the helmet to slide off the wearer's head. Additionally, the helmets don't meet federal safety standards by not complying with impact requirements.

This recall involves seven models of UVEX helmets, including XB017, XB022, XB025, XB027, XB032, XB036 and XB038. The model number can be found on the top right side of the fitting pad.

They were sold at sporting goods and bicycle specialty stores nationwide from September 2009 through June 2014 for between $100 and $260.

Consumers should stop using the helmets and contact UVEX for a free replacement or a refund.
