Unexpected deployment of electric steps in recreational vehicles from Winnebago may be causing a safety hazard for users.

Winnebago Industries, Inc. is recalling certain model year 2015-2016 Winnebago Sightseer, Vista, and Adventurer motorhomes and 2015-2016 Itasca Sunova, Sunstar, and Suncruiser recreational vehicles. The affected vehicles have electrically operated entry/exit steps that may extend down and out while the vehicle is moving.

If the steps extend while the vehicle is being driven, the steps may strike a person or another vehicle, increasing the risk of injury or a crash.

The manufacturer is including about 1,250 motorhomes in this recall.

Winnebago will notify owners. The remedy for this recall is still under development. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule.
