A defective transmission component is prompting a recall from Winnebago Industries.

The recreational vehicle manufacturer is voluntarily recalling certain model year 2015-2016 Winnebago Brave, Sightseer, Vista and Adventurer motorhomes and Itasca Tribute, Sunova, Sunstar, and Suncruiser motorhomes. The affected vehicles, built on Ford chassis, can be shifted out of 'PARK' without applying the brakes, due to an incorrect shift cable bracket and an improper shift cable adjustment.

If the vehicle can be shifted into reverse without the brakes being applied, the vehicle may unintentionally move, increasing the risk of a crash.

Winnebago is recalling about 300 recreational vehicles in connection with this defect.

Ford will notify owners, and Ford dealers will replace the transmission shift control bracket and adjust the transmission shift cable, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule.

Owners with questions about the recall can contact Winnebago customer service at (641) 585-3535 or Ford customer service at (866) 436-7332.
