A recreational vehicle manufacturer is issuing a recall due to the discovery of a fire hazard.

Winnebago Industries announced this week that it would be voluntarily recalling certain model year 2015-2016 Winnebago Sightseer and Itasca Sunova motorhomes. In the affected vehicles, all of which feature a D35G floorplan, the wiring harness behind the panel board may be pinched or damaged when the left rear slideout room is retracted due to insufficient clearance.

A damaged wiring harness increases the risk of fire.

Winnebago estimates that about 170 vehicles are affected by this defect.

Winnebago will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the wiring harness for damage, repairing it as necessary. Additionally, the harness attachment point will be relocated to provide the harness extra clearance. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule.

Owners with questions about the recall should contact Winnebago customer service at (641) 585-3535.
